At this stage in life, the
only reason we enter races is to get another T-shirt... right?
|

|
|

Well, maybe not for everyone, since many of us do it for
the satisfaction of completing a race, doing well in the competition,
racing against our friends, or simply knowing that we found a personal
test, took it on, and succeeded in overcoming the challenge. We enjoy the
knowledge that we can still be athletes and still compete. We like seeing
the expressions on the faces of our friends and co-workers when they hear
about our athletic exploits. We find a sense of adventure in striving to
take part in and finish difficult challenges. We find joy in the training
and racing experiences -- and in the camaraderie involved in being
in the sports. Perhaps these reasons would be enough to bring us to the
starting lines of the races we chose to enter. Sure, for some of us,
the experience alone would be enough reason to participate, but in The
BEAR, there are even more reasons... there are the goodies, too.

In 2002 we were pleased to have CNN Headline News
coming to film our race -- and you! CNN was able to air "Extreme
Sports Week" on their evening broadcasts repeatedly from August
2002 until well into 2003, including the special show on The BEAR
and adventure racing that first aired on August 9. They have re-broadcast the
Adventure Race segment often, so you may have had several opportunities to see yourself and your Teammates on CNN Headline
News. The BEAR also gets great photos and stories in Shorelines, the
Beaches Leader, and other publications. Who knows what coverage The BEAR will get
this year...
